Crawford Part 1 done. Part 2 - enjoy the challange.

Posted on December 10, 2018 at 3:15 PM
We suffered a minor setback last week in the first leg of the Crawford Medal against Ardrossan Castle. Unlucky in defeat we lost 19 - 43 - what might have been wasn't. However, we had a similar difficulty last year and came through magnificently, so ????????.

Brown Cup on St Andrews Day

Posted on December 2, 2018 at 6:15 PM
Ah the joys of it. Another wet and windy drive to Greenacres for this annual homage to one of our members - initials 'KF'. What can you say other than that we will be drawing lots next year to be in her team. The night was enjoyed by all especially the winning team of Jim Colquhoun (skip), Kay Fegan, Willie McDougall and Malcolm Rankin. Food, ice and company were all good - can't ask for much more.

Tan Can flows back to Auchenames

Posted on November 28, 2018 at 3:25 PM
Auchenames regained the Tan Can from Millport by a score of 18 shots to 5 with both teams winning. It's been two seasons since we held this still beautiful if somewhat frayed at the edges trophy. Our support in the large, spellbound crowd went wild; waving scarves, chanting, throwing things onto the ice - flowers, teddy bears, etc. We had an enjoyable lunch although Millport members had to leave early in view if the predicted storm. So, congratulations to our teams: James Kerr, Jim Colquhoun, ... Read Full Post »

President vs Vice President

Posted on November 22, 2018 at 5:05 PM
The trophy was won by the Vice President's team in a close match. The President's team lost a five at one end finally losing by one shot. Mind you this close score may have been due to the negotiating skills of the President's third and the generous spirit of his counterpart at the last end where the President won two shots. An enjoyable and sportsman like game it was. Post match refreshments at the Cochrane Inn were much needed and enjoyed with a toast for our absent friend Willie Jack. Incide... Read Full Post »

Cairnie and Mackinnon

Posted on November 22, 2018 at 5:00 PM
Unfortunately we failed to win either trophy both of which were secured by Ardrossan Castle. Again there are issues about the continuing involvement of Largs and Gourock due to the poor ice experienced at Harvies. The competition could not run if this happened. Say nae mair!

McNish - gotcha again

Posted on November 22, 2018 at 4:50 PM
We managed to retain this ancient trophy by a mere 12 shots with both teams winning (one by a small margin the other quite comfortably). The teams, ably skipped by Tatties Kerr and the young G Jam, were happy to retire for a friendly if not cheap refreshment at the Hydro. Hopefully we will be able to play and win the Russell early next year. However it is clear that Largs Members are unhappy about travelling to Harvies and experiencing ice of a quality which falls far short of the Waterfront. ... Read Full Post »

Dehumidifier whither art thou?

Posted on October 12, 2018 at 5:30 PM
The new dehumidifier does exist and it hasn't left the building. Unfortunately there is another delay due to some mathematically challenged individual not realising that a beam had to be removed and replaced before the machine could be properly located. At least that's my understanding - even if wrong it makes a good story. NAC's management are apologetic (but not yet shamefaced) and continue to be email hounded by Murray from Irvine CC - rather them than me. Again watch this space.

Hot Start off Hack

Posted on October 12, 2018 at 5:25 PM
We entered two teams for the Harvies Bonspeil. Auchenames 2 came first whilst Auchenames 1 came fourth (we must have got the team numbers the wrong way round). A magnificent display of early season curling by both teams. Will it continue? Watch this space. In our own Opening Bonspeil there was a triumphant return to form for Skip Graeme and his team of Joyce, Ed and Colin. Unfortunately we could only manage two teams of four and two teams of three but we enjoyed ourselves.

Oldstars versus Mair Oldstars

Posted on October 29, 2016 at 12:30 AM
The Past Presidents competition for this season was contested at the Galleon on the 26th 0ctober 2016. Your correspondent has been posted missing but I believe the result was a win for Team Jamieson (again) over Team Kerr. All involved then retired to a local hostelry for food and refreshments which were, apparently, thoroughly enjoyed. Teams: Graeme Jamieson (skip), Bryan Gossman, Willie McDougall, Jim Wardhaugh versus James Kerr (skip), Jim Colquhoun, Ken Fegan, John Parker. Or... Read Full Post »

The Late Late Show - A Waterfront Special

Posted on October 26, 2016 at 3:30 PM
The annual contest with Largs Thistle for the McNish Trophy was played at the Waterfront this 2016-17 season at the behest of Largs - as winners (unusual) last season. So keen were our teams to enter the fray that they arrived almost 2 hours early. That's the Auchenames Secretary's story but in fact the idjit made a mistake over the ice times. However, the Auchenames teams dealt positively with this unfortunate state of affairs in defeating their opponents by a clear shot.Team Jamieson's attemp... Read Full Post »

Auchenames Opening Bonspiel

Posted on October 1, 2016 at 5:10 PM
Cobber McDougall made a valiant defence of his title but was narrowly defeated by a magnificent team led by Ruth Fisher: Linda Campbell, Bryan Gossman and John Parker. Christine also quite happy as she gets part of the cabinet back. All teams won one game each but Team Fisher had a superior ends score. Bottles of wine, in colour coded wrapping (code forgotten by the secretary - but what's new) were distributed to the winning team. Thanks to Joyce for organising the event, to Simon for catering a... Harvies Opening Bonspiel - nearly guys

Posted on October 1, 2016 at 5:00 PM
Harvies opening bonspiel was as usual well organised by Gordon and Andy of Ardrossan Castle. Our 2 teams did well with Auchenames 2 nearly winning but finishing a good second and well in the money. Auchenames 1 (obviously a misnomer) came fourth with a much reduced, but still welcome, prize. Drinks are clearly still on Auchenames 2 - maybe. The ice was better cut than has been the case; the new machinery and training perhaps proving helpful. However heat and humidity still on the high side with... Read Full Post »

McKinnie Magic

Posted on March 16, 2016 at 5:55 AM

After an indifferent start, Team Jamieson eased through to a two shot victory. Team Mackie was unable to sustain its early dominance but kept trying before succumbing in the seventh and final end. Ice conditions were poor - very slow with no real curl.

Winning team: Greame Jamieson (skip), Alison Jamieson, Ken Fegan, Kay Fegan.

Just a perfect day

Posted on March 14, 2016 at 5:25 AM

in the Ayr Day Leagues both Auchenames teams had successful last day matches. In League B we defeated arch rivals Largs comfortably to obtain second place in the league. Beating Largs, coming second in the league, not having to play in the A League next year - perfect. In League D, we peeled the last game with a magnificent last ditch effort by all concerned thus retaining a place in League D by a fine margin of two ends. Again - perfect.
